PLACES OF THE SPIRIT

DAY 1
BITONTO

Morning
Guided tour of Bitonto, in particular of the sacred places: Basilica dei Santi Medici Martiri Cosma e Damiano, one of the most important reality of religious tourism in Apulia and South Italy.
It follows the guided tour of Badia San Leone, old convent founded in XI century.
Lunch based on typical apulian products in a characteristic restaurant of the historical centre. Between the delicacies “orecchiette pugliesi con cime di rapa” (traditional pasta shells with turnip tops) dressed with extra virgin olive oil.

Afternoon/ Evening

Guided tour of the Cathedral of San Valentino e Santa Maria Assunta : dedicated to San Valentino and built between XII and XIII century. It represents the highest example of Apulian Romanesque style. The main attractions of the Cathedral are the “ambone” of Nicolaus Magister and the amazing mosaic representing the “grifo” (mythical creature). It follows the visit of San Domenico Church. The beautiful Mystery chapel lodges the statues carried in procession during the Holy Week. The altar, kept here, is a virtuosity of colours, images, decorations full of symbolism and all realized from local masters.
Dinner based on apulian traditional products in a characteristic restaurant of the historical centre.

DAY 2
GIOVINAZZO- RUVO DI PUGLIA

Guided tour of Giovinazzo, nice sea village characterized from a small port. To admire the cathedral Santa Maria Assunta built between XII-XIII century. Church Santa Maria di Costantinopoli and Church dello Spirito Santo in Apulian Romanesque style with Oriental and Norman elements.
Lunch in a restaurant of the historical centre.

Afternoon-evening

Guided tour of Ruvo di Puglia, a town at the border line of Murgia, which keeps typical streets and stone houses. To admire the Cathedral, one of the most important examples of apulian Romanesque style, built between XII and XIII century modified during the Baroque style.
Dinner based on typical products.

DAY 3
BARI

Morning

Bari can boast a peculiar historical centre with a thousand-year history. Between all the sacred places, the Cathedral of San Sabino built between XII and XIII century and the Basilica di San Nicola where are kept the relics of the Saint.
Lunch based on typical products of our culinary tradition in a restaurant of the historical centre.
